Eight people died when a bus rolled into a canal in Upper Egypt

A bus accident in Minya governorate in Upper Egypt killed eight people on Sunday, all of whom were members of the same family.

Bad weather caused the bus to swerve into the Ibrahimiya canal, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported, leaving eight passengers dead, including an eight-year-old child.

Mamdouh El-Shorbagy, an official at a local hospital, said that all eight passengers were dead on arrival.

Earlier on Sunday another deadly bus accident took place near Hurghada, a resort town on the Red Sea. Eight people were killed and 29 injured, Egypt's health ministry said, when the wet weather caused the bus to flip over.

Around 12,000 people die annually on Egypt's roads, according to a 2012 World Health Organisation (WHO) report.
