Cabinet to apply electronic voting to allow Egyptians living abroad to participate in the next elections

Egypt’s Cabinet has approved the electronic voting system, proposed for Egyptians living abroad, to be applied during the next parliamentary and presidential elections. It will also be applied in three Egyptian Governorates. The project will be applied by both the Ministry of Communication and the Ministry of Interior. The selected governorates are still to be announced.

The decision was announced on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister Yehia El-Gamal, who added that the project was proposed by Minister of Communication Maged Othman and will be extended to Egyptians abroad. He added that the Minister of Interior Mansour El-Eissawy had announced that his ministry was not ready to apply the project to all governorates which led the ministry of communication to choose only three.

The decision comes as part of a state plan to expand the voting percentage and to increase democratic participation, according to El-Gamal.
