Scholz and Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi are scheduled to co-chair a roundtable titled "Investing in the Future of Energy: Green Hydrogen," Germany's Deputy Spokesman Wolfgang Buechner said.

He added that this would be an opportunity for El-Sisi and Scholz to hold talks.

Germany has urged all parties at COP27 to work on ensuring the success of the conference.

“We have suffered from climate change all over the world… If we do not act now, we will miss a chance in history,” German Ambassador to Cairo Frank Hartmann said in a Twitter video on Thursday.

Ahead of the summit, Egypt and Germany signed two declarations of intent in the fields of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and green hydrogen to contribute to securing clean energy supplies, achieving sustainable development and confronting climate change.

Egypt aims to produce green hydrogen at the lowest cost worldwide and become an export hub for Europe. They are expected to sign a partnership agreement on hydrogen and renewable energy with the European Union (EU) during COP27, the UAE’s The National newspaper cited an EU official as saying on Friday.

More than 120 heads of state have confirmed they will attend the conference and the number is expected to grow, said Egyptian Ambassador Wael Abul-Magd, special representative of the president-designate for COP27 in a press briefing Friday.

The upcoming climate conference is expected to feature the participation of over 40,000 other participants, the highest number ever for a climate summit on the continent.

More than 3,000 journalists and media professionals from around the world will cover the conference.

Egypt has reiterated on more than an occasion that it hopes to turn climate pledges into actions on the ground during COP27, which will be held under the theme “together for implementation.”

Egypt has also vowed to speak for Africa’s climate aspirations and push countries to fulfil their climate finance pledges.

Egypt’s vision to advance climate action at COP27 involves collaboration between governments, private sector, civil society and other stakeholders to focus on the issues of adaptation, mitigation, loss and damage and climate finance.
