FM Shoukry chairs virtual meeting of COP27 board

Foreign Minister and President of the 27th session of the UN Climate Change Conference Sameh Shoukry chaired Thursday a virtual meeting of the office of the board of COP27.

COP27 was hosted by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022.

The meeting was attended by the members of the office, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and representatives of the UAE presidency of the upcoming session of the global climate conference, COP28.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said Shoukry commended the important role of the office of the board of COP27 in supporting the Egyptian presidency of the conference in coming up with fruitful outcomes during the 2022 event.

He voiced confidence that the board will continue offering support to build upon the outcomes of COP27 in the period to come, said Abu Zeid.

The foreign minister reviewed the great achievements and big successes made during COP27 which witnessed a high turnout and prioritised climate action worldwide, added the spokesman.

Shoukry commended the plans to fulfil climate pledges developed by the Sharm El-Sheikh conference, including the approval of a program of action toward adaptation and mitigation and the launch of a plan to achieve a fair energy transition for all.

Participants paid tribute to the results of COP27 that are promoting climate action on all fronts.

The spokesman said the meeting discussed ongoing preparations for COP28 in the UAE, including logistics arrangements.
