This book presents an important period of Egyptian history, and that of Al-Azhar

Al-Seyasa Wal-Azhar, Politics and Al-Azhar by: Fakhr El-Din Al-Ahmadi Al-Zawahri. Publisher: AL-Shorouk publishing house. 2011. pp 324.

The Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ahmadi Al-Zawahri became the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar mosque in 1929, and left in 1935. He played an important role in enlightenment during this period, especially because he was one of the disciples of Muhammad Abduh, who was known for his modern ideas.

This book was written by his son Fakhr El-Din Al-Ahmadi Al-Zawahri, after his father had suddenly become so ill that he was not able to write. The book presents a very significant period of Egyptian history and that of Al-Azhar as well. It describes the period from the British occupation’s interference in the appointment of Sheikh Al-Maraghi as Imam of Al-Azhar, on account of his loyalty to the British, until Al-Zawahri left in 1935.
