On 11 December the Alexandria Library will launch the three-week centennial celebration of one of Egypt’s most important writers, Naguib Mahfouz in Bait El-Sinnary.

The media director at the Alexandria Library, Khaled Azab, says celebration preparations started about three months ago. His preview into the event reveals they will offer seminars about Naguib Mahfouz’s literature; a photography gallery; movie posters and screenings of some of the movies and documentaries about him.

Azab clarified that local, regional and international sides will cooperate with the Alexandria Library.

It is worth mentioning that the anniversary of Naguib Mahfouz’s came and went on 31 August, but none of the state cultural institutions noticed. The ministry of culture, the American University and other agencies decided to dedicate 2011 to Naguib Mahfouz.
