Rediscovering Naguib Mahfouz at Bait El-Sinary

Bibliotheca Alexandrina will celebrate the centenary of Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz in December with events including film screenings, discussion seminars and book fairs

Bibliotheca Alexandrina will celebrate the birth centenary of the Egyptian novelist and literature Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz in a series of events next month.

The celebration, Rediscovering Naguib Mahfouz, will be held from 11- 31 December in Bait El-Sinary in Cairo. 

The event will include a photo gallery of Naguib Mahfouz that shows the different stages of his life and the original posters of the films he wrote scenarios for.

The most important films of Mahfouz will be shown, and there will be a seminar after every film. Also there will be a fair of Mahfouz’s books and books about his works.

There will be a diverse cultural program that includes seminars about Naguib Mahfouz from several aspects of his life and his journey in the literature world through speeches made by writers and critics of his contemporaries, and speeches made by fans and those who have written about him and his novels.

Speakers will include Haitham El-Haj on Youth Readings of Mahfouz’s Works, author Mohamed Jibreel on Naguib Mahfouz: the Friendship of Two Generations, novelist Youssef El-Qaeed on Mahfouz’s work in theatre and radio, cinema critic Samir Farid who will discuss Mahfouz’s Cinema, and critics Ahmed Abo-Zaid and Vivian Mahmoud who will talk about Mahfouz’s Cinema Narrative.
