Bibliotheca Alexandrina receives a gift of 10 thousand documents about Nile River

Makram Salama donated his collection to Memory of Modern Egypt project of the Bibliotheca

Researcher Makram Salama, one of the biggest heritage and old books collectors in Egypt, dedicated about 10 thousand documents concerning Nile and irrigation in Egypt during the Khedival era to Memory of Modern Egypt’s` Project at Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Makram told Ahram Online it took a very long time to collect this rare historical treasure, and even more time archiving and indexing it. He also pointed that he was very keen to dedicate this historical legacy to the project to help in preserving Egyptian heritage.

Khaled Azab, historian and director of private projects in Bibliotheca Alexandrina, asserted that this new collection is a huge contribution to our understanding of history of irrigation and Nile River. Azab confirmed the Bibliotheca is going to digitise the collection and make it available online to help bring history awareness among Egyptians.

"The Documentation team of the project are archiving the collection in preparation for scanning,” said Mahmoud Ezzat, director of the project.
