Egyptian prominent critic, Abdel-Rahman Abu Ouf passed away last week at the age of 77 following a short illness. The General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) will hold a session on Tuesday titled "Farewell Abdel-Rahman Abu Ouf … half a century of criticism."

Abu Ouf started as literary critic in the mid-1960s and published articles on Youssef Idris, Naguib Mahfouz, Tawfiq Al-Hakim, Louis Awad and others, focusing on the practical implementation of literary criticism as a dedicated leftist.

During the last few years, he was deputy to the editor-in-chief of Al-Qahira (Cairo) magazine together with critic Ghali Choukri, as well as establishing Al-Ruwaya (The Novel) a quarterly periodical published by the Ministry of Culture.

The event will start at 6pm on Tuesday, 3 January at the Salah Abdel-Sabour Hall, in the GEBO's premises.
