This history book covers ten bloody incidents, whether individual killings or massacres, spanning a period from the eighth to the 14th century. It opens with the killing of Imam Hussein, the Prophet Mohamed’s grandson, in Karbala. It ends with Mohamed Ali Pasha inviting a great number of powerful Mamelukes to dinner at the Citadel only to do away with them.

The Alexandria-based writer Walid Fekri was born in 1980 and graduated from the Faculty of Law. He is a history scholar and has published political articles as well as books like Tarikh Shakl Tani (Another Form of History, 2010), Tarikh fil Dhil (History in the Shadow, 2012), Masr Al-Maghoula (The Unknown Egypt, 2015), Damm Al-Mamalik (The Mamelukes’ Blood, 2016) and Damm Al-Kholafaa (The Caliphs’ Blood, 2017).
