Wael Ghoneim

Al-Thawra 2.0 (The Revolution 2.0) by Wael Ghonim, Cairo: Shorouk Publishing House, 2012.

Political activist Wael Ghonim's new book The Revolution 2.0 or The New Concept of Revolution has been released by Shorouk publishing house.

Ghonim created the We Are All Khaled Saeed Facebook page – in revulsion at the brutal killing of Saeed by police in Alexandria in June 2010 – which quickly generated tens of thousands of followers and played a role in generating the January 25 Revolution.

He was arrested on 27 January 2011 during a protest in Cairo and after his release on 7 February he appeared on a popular Egyptian talk show. During the interview he wept and spoke about the need to continue the protests to oust President Hosni Mubarak. His passion served to reenergise the protests that ultimately brought down Mubarak on 11 February.

The book is an inspiring account of one man's contribution to Egypt's revolution.

TIME magazine included Ghonim on its list of the 100 most influential people of 2011. He is the regional director of marketing for Google in the Middle East and North Africa.
