Event: World Book Day celebration at Egyptian Journalists' Syndicate

MENA, Sunday 22 Apr 2012

Novelist Bahaa Taher, publisher Mohamed Rashad and deputy head of the Union of Egyptian Writers to attend event marking UNESCO book celebration

To mark World Book Day on 23 April, the Cultural Committee of the Journalists' Syndicate is to hold a celebration featuring the novelist Bahaa Taher, publisher Mohamed Rashad and the deputy head of the Union of Egyptian Writers.

Helmy El-Namnam, CEO of the iconic Al-Hilal publishing house, will chair the event.

UNESCO designated 23 April as the annual book celebration day during its Paris conference in 1995.

Piracy and copyright will be the theme of the event. Poor law enforcement has led many websites and publishing houses to infringe copyrights and make illegal copies of books, both in electronic and print formats, in unprecedented numbers.
