The General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) is preparing for the second Ramadan Book Fair in the Faisal neighbourhood, due to start on the 7th day of Ramadan until the 22nd, and set to receive some 200 publishers over an area of 3500 square metres.
Following the significant turnout for last year's Ramadan Book Fair, Ahmed Megahed, head of the GEBO, decided to continue the fair for the second year in a row. "The book fair exposed the extent to which the neighbourhood is lacking in cultural activities," Megahed stated. Faisal is in Giza, close to the Cairo University, but is not known for cultural activity.
Similar to last year, the fair will run from the morning until 4pm, then closes for Iftar, then resumes around 8pm. The fair closes around 1am, just past midnight. Entrance and parking this year are free, as they were last year.
Building on last year's participation, there will be a daily cultural activity, including concerts and other performances.
The GEBO will offer a discount up to 50 per cent on many titles during the book fair to encourage purchases.
