General Egyptian Book Organisation will release a new edition of the complete works of the legendary Egyptian poet, Ahmed Fouad Negm, known for writing in colloquial Arabic.
Born in 1929 in Sharqiya governorate, Negm became known for writing in the vernacular. He shot to fame with his collaborative work with singer composer Sheikh Imam, who is said to have captured the Egyptian national crisis after the 1967 war with his voice.
Negm’s work was patriotic and revolutionary poetry. The criticisms he made in his hugely popular poetry of Egypt’s leadership over the years landed him in prison a number of times.
The book will be published in co-operation with Merit Publishing house, the original owner of the copyright.
