Late Novelist Khairy Shalaby at his home office
Al-Zaytoun Literary Workshop will commemorate the first anniversary of the death of late renowned writer Khairy Shalaby on Monday, 3 September, at 7:30pm.
The event will feature Zain and Reem Khairy Shalaby, the late writer’s son and daughter, and also writers Saied El-Kafrawy, Mohammed Ibrahim Taha and Hatem Hafez. Critic Shaaban Youssef will moderate the discussion.
Khairy Shalaby (31 January 1938-9 September 2011), Egyptian writer and novelist, had more than 70 published works to his name, including novels, short stories, theatrical studies and biographies. Many of his works were transformed into TV series and films. He received many literary awards, including the Egyptian Decoration of Arts and Culture in 1981, the Best Arabic Novel for Wakalt Attia (Attia’s Shop), and the prestigious Naguib Mahfouz Literary Award granted from the American University in Cairo for the same novel in 2003.
