Cairo International Book Fair
Libya is to be guest of honour at the 44th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) on 23 Jan–5 Feb 2013.
Ahmed Megahed, director of the General Egyptian Book Organization (GEBO) which is organising the fair, said Libyan cultural officials and publishers had agreed to the outlines of the programme during a meeting on Tuesday morning.
India was supposed to be the guest of honour but turned down the offer because the event clashes with the New Delhi World Book Fair, which will be open on 4 February 2013, Megahed said.
Tunisia was the guest of honour in 2012.
GEBO said it had devoted 200 square metres to the Libyan wing in the main hall of the fair, and 1000 square metres at the open exhibition.
