The former minister of social affairs and former president of Egypt’s National Council for Women is expected to welcome a high-profile audience that includes senior government officials, Arab and foreign ambassadors, as well as leading writers, thinkers, and public figures.

Tallawy, who also served as an assistant secretary-general of the United Nations and as executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), said the memoir traces defining moments in her political and diplomatic career, spanning national public service and senior international responsibilities.

The book documents major historical developments and offers a first-hand political testimony to a pivotal period in modern Egyptian history, during which she lived through the presidencies of four Egyptian leaders across different political phases, often from proximity to decision-making circles.

She noted that A Woman from Upper Egypt is both a personal narrative and a reflective account of a vision shaped over decades of engagement in political, economic, and social life. Drawing on her early experiences in Upper Egypt, Tallawy connects personal formation with public responsibility, while offering insights into the evolving role of women in leadership and the transformation of state institutions and public policy.

The signing event will be hosted by Dalia Ibrahim, chairperson of Nahdet Misr, and is expected to attract wide interest from diplomatic, political, and cultural circles.
