Nobel Prize in Literature winner, Louis Glück describes the moment she heard that she had won the prestigious Swedish literature prize.
The Swedish Academy published a telephone interview with the 2020 Nobel Prize winner.
The American poet recounts her initial reaction as "my first thought was I won't have any friends because most of my friends are writers but then I thought no, that won't happen," said Glück.
When asked what being awarded such a prize means to her, the 2020 winner stated " I have no idea, it is too new I don’t really know what it means, it's a great honor ," said Glück.
On the monetary value of the prize, she said "I think of practically I wanted to buy another house in Vermont I have a condo Cambridge and I thought oh I can a house, but mostly I’m concerned with the preservation of daily life with people I love."
She suggests new readers start with any of her work "because they’re very different, one from another." But not her first book, she says, "Unless they want to feel contempt!"
