The event, which runs until 25 October, is being held under the patronage of Counsellor Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, Libya’s attorney general.
Taking place at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds, the fair features participation from Libyan, Arab, and international publishers and has attracted a large public turnout.
Egypt’s participation reflects the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries, with over 130 Egyptian publishing houses and cultural organizations showcasing a wide range of cultural, intellectual, and legal works across various fields.
Several Egyptian publishers said their participation is part of ongoing cultural and legal cooperation between Egypt and Libya, noting that the exchange of expertise between the two countries supports justice-sector development across the Arab region.
The book fair is one of Libya’s leading annual cultural events, presenting thousands of titles in the fields of thought, literature, the humanities, and law.
Organized under the auspices of the Public Prosecution and the Centre for Criminal Research and Training in Libya, the fair serves as both a cultural and legal platform that connects academic knowledge with public awareness.
It also reflects the Public Prosecution’s commitment to supporting cultural and intellectual initiatives and highlights the importance of collaboration among national institutions to promote a culture of law, integrity, and transparency.
The supervisory committee has organized training courses, workshops, and seminars focused on legal awareness and judicial principles. The programme also includes religious and cultural competitions aimed at linking legal knowledge with ethical understanding.
Professors of criminal law from several Libyan universities are taking part, delivering lectures on criminal justice and the importance of judicial independence. They emphasized the need to continue such initiatives to help build a generation of legal professionals aware of their responsibilities to society.
Earlier, Libya’s attorney general inaugurated the fair’s second edition. The opening ceremony was attended by Engineer Essam Al-Aoul, chairman of the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, along with the president and members of the Supreme Judicial Council, diplomats, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, and a number of writers, intellectuals, and media figures.
The fair’s programme features a variety of cultural events, including book signings, new publication launches, and dialogue sessions with leading writers and intellectuals.
Workshops and interactive activities are also being held to encourage reading and promote cultural engagement.
