An explosion went off Friday at a police checkpoint in the southern Turkish town of Suruc close to the Syrian border, causing injuries, reports said.

The cause of the blast was not clear but Turkish media said emergency service vehicles rushed to the scene. NTV television said at least one policeman was wounded.

Suruc lies just over the border from the Syrian town of Kobane which was recaptured last month by Kurdish fighters after a battle with Islamic State (IS) jihadists.
