New York's LaGuardia airport closed after plane mishap: FAA

Reuters , Thursday 5 Mar 2015

New York's LaGuardia Airport was closed on Thursday due to an "aircraft incident," the Federal Aviation Administration announced after a passenger plane skidded off a runway.

A Delta Air Lines plane slid off the runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport earlier on Thursday during a snowstorm.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, said a spokesman for the New York City Fire Department, which confirmed a plane slid off the runway on Thursday morning.

Images from local media showed the Delta plane on a snowy runway area with its nose smashed into a fence. It was not clear whether the aircraft was landing or taking off when the incident occurred.

Delta could not be reached immediately for comment.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey did not have additional information.
