A draft UN resolution to be presented to the Security Council on Friday calls for Syrian peace talks to begin in early January.

The draft text obtained by AFP asks the United Nations to bring the Syrian government and the opposition to the table for formal negotiations on a political transition to end Syria's nearly five-year war.
