Two Italian civilians held hostage in Libya might have died in a gun battle in the western Libyan city of Sabratha, the Italian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
Libyan security forces said they killed seven suspected Islamic State group militants in a raid on a militant hideout in Sabratha on Wednesday. They later released photographs of two Western men who also apparently died during the attack.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the men might be two of the four employees of Italian construction company Bonatti who were kidnapped in the North African country last July.
It named the possible victims as Fausto Piano and Salvatore Failla, and said further checks were being carried out.
