French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday that there was "no alternative" to the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal which has been repeatedly criticised by US President Donald Trump.

"I want to confirm France's commitment to the Vienna nuclear deal with Iran," he told French ambassadors in a major foreign policy speech. "There is no alternative to the non-proliferation agenda. It enables a constructive and demanding relationship with Iran," he said.
