President Omar Al-Bashir has ordered a full-scale mobilisation of forces across Sudan and ordered state rulers to open camps for volunteers and the Popular Defence Forces (PDF) in a bid to end a rebellion in Kordofan province.

Al-Bashir threatened the government of newly established South Sudan and reminded it of the fate of Libya's Muammar Gaddafi.

Al-Bashir's threats, published in the pan-Arab daily, Al-Hayat, came after his government officially accused the South of joining with the Sudan People's Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) in a plot to topple the Khartoum regime by occupying the state of South Kordofan before advancing to the capital.

"Those who conspire against Sudan will pay the price," said Al-Bashir.  

"May God damn him," he said of Gaddafi and accused him of playing "a dirty role" in Sudan.

After Gaddafi’s regime started to crumble last year, Al-Bashir accused him of being responsible for many of Sudan’s woes, particularly through his support of rebels in Darfur.

The Sudanese president condemned an International Criminal Court arrest warrant issued for his defence minister. "Why did they look the other way for all that time and now say this? They want to undermine a symbol of the Sudanese armed forces."

"I say, on behalf of the armed forces, we will defend the dignity and pride of Sudan," he concluded.
