Libyan deputy foreign minister Abdelati Laabidi crossed into Tunisia Sunday through the main Ras Jdir border post and headed to Djerba, witnesses told AFP.
Libyan foreign minister Mussa Kussa took the same route when he defected last month but the purpose of Laabidi's trip was unclear.
Laabidi, who is also the deputy minister for European affairs, travelled in an official Libyan vehicle with an escort, witnesses said.
Kussa, a stalwart in the regime of veteran Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi, passed through Ras Jdir on March 28, saying he was on a private visit, a Tunisian official said.
Two days later he took a Swissair flight from Djerba to London, where he announced he had defected.
Laabidi was with the minister in Djerba but later returned to Libya.
In a second high-profile Libyan resignation this week, Arab League sources said in Cairo on Sunday that veteran Libyan diplomat Ali Treiki had quit from his official duties.
