The delegations of both the Sudanese army and its rival paramilitary force started on Sunday a new round of peace talks in a push to end the nearly seven-month conflict between Sudan’s warring factions that left thousands dead, the statement read.

The talks are being brokered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the African Union.

According to the statement, the new round will focus on ensuring unhindered humanitarian access and achieving ceasefires, the possibility of achieving a permanent cessation of all hostile actions, and other confidence-building measures and will not address any political issues.

Both SAF and RSF agreed that the brokers are the only joint official spokesmen for the negotiations.

Since April, the war between forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the RSF, has killed more than 9,000 people and displaced over 5.6 million.
