The market is near the main camp of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese capital, as reported by AFP.

The war between Daglo's Rapid Support Forces and the regular military, led by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has killed tens of thousands and caused the world's largest displacement.

The attack comes amid a surge of attacks by the Sudanese army on the positions of the RSF.

"Twenty-three people were confirmed dead and more than 40 others wounded" and taken to hospital after "military air strikes on Saturday afternoon on the main market" in southern Khartoum, the youth-led Emergency Response Rooms said in a post on Facebook.

According to Sudan Tribune, the airstrikes targeted the Southern Belt region.

The Southern Belt, comprising several neighbourhoods has been a battleground between the army and the RSF since the conflict erupted in April 2023.

The area is frequently subjected to artillery fire and aerial bombardment, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, Sudan Tribue newspaper said.

This latest attack is part of a major offensive launched by the army on September 26th to reclaim areas under RSF control.
