International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo will report on progress made in his investigation in Libya before the UN Security Council next week, his office said on Thursday.
While in New York on May 4, Moreno-Ocampo will also update the Council on a possible request to judges to issue arrest warrants against "those who appear to bear the greatest responsibility for crimes committed in Libya."
"From May 2 to 5, the ICC prosecutor will be in New York...(and) on May 4, the prosecutor will report to the Council on progress in the investigation regarding the situation in Libya where he opened an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes," his office said in a statement.
Moreno-Ocampo on March 3 announced a probe into crimes against humanity committed in Libya, including against Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi and three of his sons.
The prosecutor later added he would ask the ICC judges to issue arrest warrants a few weeks after informing the Council on the investigation's progress.
His office on Thursday said allegations of war crimes committed by different parties would be further investigated.
The prosecutor's ongoing probe of crimes against humanity followed a referral by the Council on February 26 in a resolution, asking him to investigate the situation in Libya since mid-February.
Moreno-Ocampo is also targeting four other senior Libyan officials, including Libya's top diplomat Mussa Kussa and former prime minister Abu Zeyd Omar Dorda, the director-general of the Libyan External Security Organisation.
