Bahrain's king will be attending a horse show in Britain rather than the summit between the U.S. and Gulf leaders at Camp David.

Bahrain's royal court said Wednesday that King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa will leave for the United Kingdom on Thursday to attend "the joint yearly celebration at Windsor."

The Royal Windsor Horse Show runs through Sunday.

During the visit, the royal court said the king will meet Queen Elizabeth II to "review the longstanding mutual ties between both royal families" and to discuss bilateral relations.

King Hamad and other Bahrain royals have taken part in the event in previous years.

Bahrain is an ally of both Britain and America. The island nation hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.

Other Gulf leaders have sent intermediaries to Camp David.
