Reports of shooting in Sudan flashpoint state

The United Nations received reports of shooting in the village of Umm Dorain in Sudan's South Kordofan state on Sunday, a spokeswoman said, adding military observers would run a patrol to gather details.

South Kordofan, which lies in northern territory, is seen as one potential flashpoint as south Sudan prepares to secede from the north on July 9. Khartoum has threatened to clear out southern-allied armed groups in the area.

"There were reports of shooting in Umm Dorain, which took place late morning," U.N. spokeswoman Hua Jiang told Reuters.
