Israeli gunfire injures Gaza fisherman

A Palestinian fisherman was hit by gunfire from an Israeli naval vessel off the northern coast of Gaza on Monday, Palestinian medical sources said.

Adham Abu Selmiya, spokesman for the Hamas-run emergency services, said a 42-year-old fisherman "was injured by bullets fired by occupation soldiers on a warship near Beit Lahiya" in northern Gaza.

Abu Selimya said the unnamed fisherman was "moderately" injured and taken to Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahiya for treatment. An Israeli military spokeswoman said she was looking into the reported incident.

Israel maintains a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip and restricts fishing to a zone extending three nautical miles off the coast of the Palestinian territory.
