Egyptian governor of South Sinai denies the attacks on Israeli buses were carried out from Egyptian territory, 6 reported dead so far

Egypt's South Sinai governor Khaled Fouda denied on Thursday reports that gunmen had opened fire on Israeli vehicles from Sinai in which several people were killed, state television said.

"The South Sinai governor denied there was any gunfire from Taba towards Eilat port," state television reported, referring to the Egyptian Red Sea resort across the border from the Israeli port city of Eilat.

At least six people were killed when gunmen attacked a number of vehicles travelling in southern Israel on Thursday, a spokesman for the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.

Israel's military added in a statement: "Terrorists fired at a bus on its way to (the city of) Eilat and fired an anti-tank rocket at another vehicle. At the same time, a military patrol hit an explosive device."
