Bomb buried in Mediterranean beach detonates

A news report says a small bomb has exploded on a beach in a Mediterranean resort, slightly injuring six people and causing panic. NTV television says the bomb went off early on Sunday on a beach in Kemer, in Antalya province, a resort popular with tourists from Germany, the Netherlands and Russia.

The report said the bomb was buried in the sand and the injured were mostly hurt by flying stones.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Kurdish rebels fighting for autonomy in southeastern Turkey have carried out attacks at tourist resorts in the past.
