Israeli spying systems found in Lebanon on Wednesday were intended to monitor missile sites in the country as well as in Syria according toTik Debka, an Israeli news service specializing in intelligence and security.
The news service reported Thursday that Israeli military and security sources confirmed the systems' purpose was to investigate the capability and range of missiles.
The report indicated that the spying systems, found mostly atop Sanin mountain, demonstrate how freely Israel operated in the area.
The Druze-dominated mountain lies at the heart of Christian territory.
Israeli military sources confirmed increased military activity near the Lebanese coast as well as over the country's air space.
Lebanese sources confirmed Thursday morning that the sound of explosions had been heard near the city of Sur in south Lebanon, probably resulting from an Israeli probing mission in the area.
Israeli military forums are reported to have started that all Israeli cities from Eilat in the south to Tel Aviv would be vulnerable should a war erupt between the state and Hezbollah.
