The United States is lifting sanctions on an Israeli firm accused of selling an oil tanker to Iran, but still maintains those selling the ship should have known better.
Iran is Israel's mortal enemy and the object of US and international sanctions over its disputed nuclear program.
Billionaire brothers, who are among Israel's richest men, said the $8.5 million deal was conducted unwittingly with an Iranian shell company.
The sanctions in May banned the Ofer brothers from obtaining US export licenses and American bank loans topping $10 million.
The brothers did not live to see the news. Sammy Ofer died in June at 89, Yuli Ofer died last week at 87.
The US added sanctions against two other entities. Sanctions against an Ofer subsidiary in Singapore are still in place.
