About 20 Israeli leftwing pro-Palestinian activists clash with settlers over an Arab setting up tent to claim occupied land, say police who arrested two of the activists and the Palestinian man

Jewish settlers on Friday clashed with some 20 left-wing pro-Palestinian Israeli activists in the Anatot settlement in the occupied West Bank northeast of Jerusalem, police said.

"Around 20 leftist Israeli pro-Palestinians arrived at Anatot waving Palestinian flags in support of an Arab who had put up a tent on land he claims is his," spokeswoman Luba Samri told AFP.

A Palestinian source said the Palestinian was from east Jerusalem, which was conquered by Israel in the 1967 Six Day war and later annexed.

"There was some stone-throwing between residents of Anatot and the demonstrators, with three people lightly hurt," Samri said.

"Border guards intervened to restore calm. They detained two demonstrators, as well as the man who erected the tent," she added.

A Palestinian security official said he was unaware of the incident.
