Security Council discusses the situation on Yemen behind closed doors with no resolution expected to be formulated straight away

The UN humanitarian chief is asking the world to pay more attention to Yemen as the Security Council deliberates on how to resolve the crisis there.

Humanitarian Affairs Chief Valerie Amos says that millions of people there are struggling to survive amid the conflict, soaring food prices and collapsing state services.

The Security Council was discussing Yemen behind closed doors on Tuesday but British Deputy Ambassador Philip Parham said no same-day resolution was expected.

The Middle Eastern country has been rocked since February by mass protests calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh's ouster. Saleh recently returned to Yemen after receiving treatment in Saudi Arabia for burns suffered in an explosion.
