A senior figure of Algeria's leading party says that the party and the current president will rule the country for at least 20 more years

The National Liberation Front (FLN) candidate for the 2014 Algerian presidential elections will be President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, FLN Secretary General Abdelaziz Belkhadem said.

Belkhadem made the announcement in the annual meeting of the party's Central Committee that Bouteflika and his party will rule the country until 2030 at a minimum.

"Bouteflika is our leader and he will be our candidate for the coming election. We are saying it clearly; anyone who wants to run for the presidency, the election results are known in advance and there is no need to waste your resources," he said.

Belkhadem's statement came a few days after the president of the National Rally for Democracy Party, Sayed Ahmed Al Ayashi, announced that he will run for the presidency in 2014, if President Bouteflika decides not to run.
