Israeli and Palestinian officials say Israeli aircraft have struck the Gaza Strip in retaliation for rocket fire into southern Israel.

Palestinian health official Adham Abu Salmia says a missile hit the home of a Gaza militant who was not home at the time, but flying shrapnel wounded a 12-year-old girl and her father in a nearby house.

The Israeli military said in a statement early Sunday that it targeted a weapons factory in response to rockets fired by Palestinian militants. The last rocket to hit Israel struck Saturday night.

The airstrike was the latest development in a days-long round of violence that has raised fears of a wider conflict.
