An Israeli right-wing organisation accused the left of receiving financial support from Arab and Islamic countries in order to tarnish Israel's image.

Leftist humanitarian organisations are receiving aid from Islamic sources to support so called "terrorist" activity alleged Im Tirtzu, a rightist organization affiliated with Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu Party.

The claim was published in the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot in which Im Tirtzu called for the creation of an investigative body to look into the source of funding, claiming funds originated from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.

In response to the accusations, Israeli human rights groups, notably Beit Selm and Breaking Silence, released a statement declaring that the accusations are unfounded and that they are funded by 'friends' of Israel.

"Lieberman, with his failed foreign policy, seeks to destroy Israel's ties with European countries," the statement said.

"The humanitarian organisations have been working for tens of years to support human rights and societal initiatives and enjoy credibility in Europe," it added. "They are based in Geneva, work in accordance with international law, and are backed by European nations."

Previously, in a speech to the Knesset, Lieberman referred to leftist activists as "animals”.
