Jordan said Tuesday that an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders is the "only path" to Middle East peace, in reaction to Washington's Israeli-Palestinian plan.

An independent Palestinian state with borders of before the 1967 Middle East war, when Israel seized the West Bank and Gaza, was "the only path to a comprehensive and lasting peace", Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said.
