The announcement was made in Algiers at a conference of Algerian diplomats and consular missions abroad according to Xinhua, news agency.

Tebboune expressed his hope that the upcoming summit would be an opportunity to "reform the Arab League."

The Arab summit was forced to be postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

In September 2020, the Algerian president stressed that the Palestinian cause will remain "sacred" for Algeria, reaffirming his country's commitment to the Arab peace initiative adopted in the Arab summit held in Beirut in 2002.
