The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency: "The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, directed the Council of Ministers to suspend its sessions until further notice."

"This came because a group of demonstrators entered the Cabinet headquarters in the Government Palace," the statement explained.

Hundreds of followers of Al-Sadr stormed Iraq's government palace earlier on Monday shortly after he announced he was withdrawing from politics, further deepening an unprecedented political crisis.
