Arab League chief, UN envoy agree on coordination to resolve Libyan crisis

Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Abdullah Batili agreed on continuing coordination to reach a solution that guarantees holding elections and maintaining the country's unity.

During their meeting in Algiers on Monday ahead of the 31st Arab Summit, Abul Gheit asserted the Arab League's support to the UN envoy's mission in Libya, renewing his call to expel all foreign mercenaries and forces from the country's territories, Gamal Roshdy, the AL chief's spokesman, said.

Batili briefed Abul Gheit on his recent meetings with Libyan politicians, economists, and representatives of civil society, since his arrival in Libya to assume my functions as Special Representative and head of the UNSMIL on October 14.
