Israel staged airstrikes on the suburbs of Syria's capital Damascus early Friday morning, killing Milad Heidari, an Iranian military adviser from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran's state TV reported.

Iran’s state TV also warned that Israel would receive a response for the crime.

Syrian state news agency SANA acknowledged the attack, quoting a military source who said the missile barrage came from the direction of the Golan Heights at 12:17am.

"The Syrian air defense system successfully intercepted several of the missiles, but the attack resulted in some material damage," the source added.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the attacks.

“Unfortunately, the international community did not have the expected and deterrent reaction to the aggressive and continuous military attacks by Israel on Syria, including civilian airports and residential areas," Kanaani said.

He added that such aggressive practices are a clear and ongoing violation of international laws and regulations.

Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, including attacks on the Damascus and Aleppo airports, but it rarely acknowledges specific operations.

Israel says it targets bases of Iran-allied militant groups, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has sent thousands of fighters to support Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces.
