Organisation of Islamic Cooperation renews call for immediate ceasefire in Sudan to celebrate Eid al-Fitr
The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, issued a statement on Tuesday renewing his call for immediate ceasefire to allow the Sudanese people to practice the ritual of celebrating Eid al-Fitr as a holy Islamic rite.

"The organisation supports international ceasefire efforts for humanitarian assistance deliveries and the evacuation of the injured and entrapped in conflict areas," the statement read.
Taha also stressed the readiness of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to channel its full potential and capabilities to support humanitarian efforts and resume dialogue between the rival parties to overcome the crisis threatening the security, safety and unity of Sudan.
Today's statement follows an earlier one in which the OIC called on both leaders of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to end the fighting and begin negotiations.
A 24-hour ceasefire reportedly reached between Sudan's rival generals went into effect on Tuesday, but fighting continued in the capital, and it was unclear whether it would hold.
No sooner had the first hour of the ceasefire between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces entered into force on Tuesday than the sounds of gunfire were heard in the capital Khartoum resulting in a violation of the agreement.
