Abdul-Hakim Naimi, the Chargé d'Affairs of the UAE's Embassy in Damascus, handed the invitation to the Syrian President during their meeting on Sunday, Syrian state news agency (SANA) reported.

The UAE is hosting the United Nations climate summit (COP28) in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December, 2023.

Earlier this month, the Arab League officially welcomed back Syria's government to the Arab fold.

The Arab League suspended Syria's membership in 2011 after the war broke out there following massive protests. Several member states then recalled their ambassadors from Damascus, accusing Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad of cracking down on demonstrators in the country.

The United Arab Emirates re-established ties with Syria in 2018 and has been leading the recent charge to reintegrate Damascus in the pan-Arab body.
