The League Council at the level of permanent delegates commissioned the Arab group at the UN to begin studying ways to freeze Israel's membership in the General Assembly during its extraordinary session held on Thursday under the presidency of the Republic of Yemen, the interim presidency of the Ministerial Council, based on the request of the State of Palestine and the support of the member states.
The League Council's resolution expressed regret over the Security Council's failure to assume its responsibilities in implementing the immediate and effective ceasefire as stipulated in Resolution No. 2735, dated 6/10/2024, in a way that would facilitate the entry of relief and humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
The resolution also denounced Britain's obstruction of international justice and slowing down justice for victims. Britain had requested the International Criminal Court to allow it to submit written observations on whether the International Criminal Court may exercise jurisdiction over holders of Israeli citizenship.
The resolution thus aims to hold Britain legally and morally accountable for obstructing justice by enabling the perpetrators to escape punishment.
The League Council’s resolution also requested the General Secretariat of the Arab League to coordinate with member states to implement the decision of the Arab Summit, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain on 5/16/2024, to include in the list of extremist Israeli organizations and groups those who storm the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and are linked to Israeli colonial settlements.
The resolution also affirmed the categorical rejection of the plans of the Israeli occupation government to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine. The Arab League Council also expressed full support for the efforts of the Government of the State of Palestine to assume governance responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, and its efforts to establish peace, security and stability in the region within the framework of a comprehensive peace, based on ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab League Council also condemned the continuing and dangerous Israeli military attacks deep into southern Lebanon, which caused the death of civilians, including children, women, journalists, and paramedics. It also condemned the repeated Israeli attacks on the Syrian Arab Republic, which represent a blatant violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and a violation of international law and the Disengagement Agreement.
Furthermore, the Arab League Council's resolution praised the international public support of the Palestinian cause and condemned the crime of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. It also hailed the diplomatic and legal efforts by several states and international human rights organizations, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, and urged all countries to follow suit.
The resolution also welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General’s inclusion of Israel, the occupying power, on the blacklist of organizations and countries that violate the rights of children in conflict areas issued annually by the United Nations.
The Arab League Council also highly praised the declaration of several countries to recognize the State of Palestine, calling on countries that have not declared similar recognitions to recognize a Palestinian state in conformity with international legitimacy and to consider such recognition a legitimate right of the Palestinian people.
