The Lebanese movement identified the second Hezbollah commander as Ahmed Mahmoud Wahbi saying that he led the military operations of its elite Radwan Force.

"He was martyred on the road to Jerusalem following a treacherous Israeli assassination operation on 09/20/2024 in the southern suburbs of Beirut," a Hezbollah statement announcing his death said.

Lebanon's resistance group said earlier said that its top commander Ibrahim Aqil had been assassinated by Israeli fire on Friday. A source close to Hezbollah said Aqil was "at a meeting with commanders" when he was killed.

The Israeli blasts killed dozens, including civilians and left Lebanon in a state of shock over the attack that saw Hezbollah members killed in civilian-packed areas.

Hezbollah has been exchanging cross-border fire with Israel since October to press it to halt its war on Gaza, now approaching its 12th month.

Months of near-daily border clashes have killed hundreds in Lebanon, including civilians, and dozens in Israel, forcing tens of thousands on both sides to flee their homes.
